Captain Phil Hansen is running for re-election as the Western Region Director.

Captain Phil Hansen has served with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department (LASD) for over 32 years. He currently commands the department’s Reserve Forces Bureau. Twenty three years of his law enforcement service have been in the field of tactical operations and critical incident command, including 13 years as a full-time SWAT Sergeant / Team Leader, and an additional six years as Team Commander at the department’s Special Enforcement Bureau (SEB).

Captain Hansen has served as an instructor for the National Tactical Officer’s Association (NTOA) since 1991 and has served on the Association’s Board of Directors since 1993.  He currently holds the position of Chairman of the Board.  He has completed major tactical incident reviews for the LASD, LAPD and Oakland PD, and performed SWAT capability assessments for several other agencies.  Captain Hansen is a recognized subject-matter expert in the area of law enforcement tactical operations and has served on several course development committees for the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST).  As a member of the California POST Executive Committee on SWAT, he participated in development of the current California POST SWAT Guidelines.

Captain Hansen’s educational background includes a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration from California State University, Northridge, and post-graduate studies in law.  In May 2011, he will graduate with a Master of Leadership degree from the University of Southern California (USC).
