The NTOA training program is one of the most credible, cost-effective programs in the country. The utilization of active police officers as trainers in all "hands-on" courses makes the NTOA program unique, and course fees are well below the national average.
The NTOA provides training across the United States and in Canada on a special request basis. A police agency may request training in a particular topic, and the course can be customized to meet individual agency needs. The NTOA conducts over 150 courses of this type each year.
An agency may host NTOA training by either of the following two methods:
1. OPEN COURSE
The requesting agency co-hosts the training by providing the facilities for classroom and practical training. The co-host also provides marketing support in the form of teletypes, emails, mailings, and faxes as available. In return for this support, the NTOA provides the co-host with a complimentary slot in the training. Any sworn law enforcement officer may register for the course. Pre-registration is required, and the course is posted on the NTOA Web site training calendar, and, if possible, The Tactical Edge. The NTOA handles all registrations and collects all fees, charged on a per-student basis.
2. CLOSED COURSE
The requesting agency co-hosts the training by providing the facilities for classroom and practical training. The co-host agency agrees to pay the fee for the total cost of the course. The co-host is invoiced approximately 30 - 45 days prior to the course start, and the invoice must be paid within 30 days of the course completion. The course will not be listed on NTOA's Web site, nor will it be advertised by any other means. All slots will be filled by sworn law enforcement officers from the co-host or its assigns. Pre-registration is not required; however, the co-host is asked to submit a roster of students two weeks prior to course start.
