Tactical Team Practical Reviews/Assessments
NTOA's Tactical Team Practical Reviews/Assessments evaluate a team's tactical readiness in the areas of barricaded suspect, high-risk warrant service and/or hostage rescue, depending on the agency's needs. After an indepth evaluation of the team's movement skills, members will be put through a series of scenarios using role players and Simunitions® to evaluate their physical and decision-making skills. The instructor/evaluator will provide verbal critiques after each scenario and suggestions on how the team can improve its abilities to resolve various critical situations.
Two- or three-day reviews/assessments are available. If the operations review is to include barricaded suspect, high-risk warrant service and hostage rescue, a three-day review is required. A two-day review would cover only one or two of the three disciplines named. The number of instructor/evaluator(s) will be determined by the team size, available training logistics and types of disciplines requested.
Tactical Team Formal In-depth Reviews/Assessments
This labor-intensive and time-consuming evaluation is designed to provide written constructive feedback on the state of SWAT/tactical teams and to ensure their policies and programs are consistent with contemporary state-of-the-art programs and equal in effectiveness to any SWAT program in the United States. NTOA assists agencies by providing guidelines and standards which require on-site visit(s) and observations in each topical area. Findings are recorded and recommendations made after requested review of operation and training policies and procedures, selection process, team member interviews, training evaluation, firearms evaluation, equipment and operational deployment procedures, after-actions of call-outs and physical performance of team.
Multi-Jurisdictional SWAT Team Reviews/Assessments
The Multi-Jurisdictional SWAT Team Reviews/Assessments is designed to provide either oral or written feedback on the state of Multi-Jurisdictional teams and to ensure their policies are contemporary and equal in effectiveness to other Multi-Jurisdictional SWAT programs in the United States. NTOA provides guidance for new multi-jurisdictional teams that are newly formed or are a merger of existing teams. NTOA also assists agencies with established teams by providing guidelines and standards which may require onsite visit(s) and observations of team performance and equipment review. Recommendations are made after a review of operation and training policies and procedures, selection process, operational deployment procedures, multi-jurisdictional agreements with other agencies, disciplinary process, and after-action of call-outs have been completed.
Tactical Team Firearm Proficiency Reviews/Assessments
The Tactical Team Firearm Proficiency Reviews/Assessments evaluates a specialized or department's firearm program through an independent examination of unit or department personnel's demonstrated firearm proficiency with duty assigned equipment/weapons. Testing is conducted live fire using safe, proven stress courses of fire. Operators will be evaluated on proper manipulation, marksmanship and cognitive ability while stressed mentally and physically. Testing provides a true training experience in weapon proficiency/marksmanship. Each operator's demonstrated proficiency, and an overall assessment of equipment and identification of training improvements will be provided in a comprehensive report following completion.
